60 new genomes of brown algae analysed (France Génomique Project “Phaeoexplorer”)

An international team of researchers, led by the CNRS and the CEA and funded by France Génomique, analyzed 60 new genomes of brown algae, an essential group of marine ecosystems. Published in Cell, this study reveals key genomic innovations that have enabled the adaptation of brown algae to coastal environments subject to tides. These advances shed new light on the evolution of these “underwater forests” which play a crucial role in carbon sequestration and the resilience of coastal ecosystems.
